Video Exercise

I shot some different video angles on my Nikon DSLR 5600. I had some trouble with the shots that needed people because no one in my house likes to be on camera so I ended up having to use myself. I also wasn’t sure how to do sone of the shots because we didn’t have in class time.

Without Bees

Without bees we would survive, one-third of our global food supply is pollinated by bees and if they were to die off we would have enough crops to feed everyone. That’s why instead of this poll being called “What food would you miss most without bees” it is “What is your favorite food bees help to make”. Without bees, we would miss most foods.

When You Work at Home Pets Become You Co-workers

For this assignment, I documented the workday of my Dad’s fiancé, Jean, as she works from home because of the COVID-19 virus. Our house is full of animals we have 2 cats, 2 dogs, and we currently have a foster dog as well. As Jean works from home as an auto claims adjuster all the pets will sit with her as she works. When it comes to the project itself, I had some trouble getting pictures of Jean’s face and getting the pets in the picture as her set up is right against the wall but, I think I did well for the circumstances.

Jean works in the living room, he set up is made of a coffee table that was in the basement and a chair from the dining room (sometimes she sits on the exercise ball).
Jean works while surrounded by the all but one of the pets of the house.
Anges, the foster dog, still hasn’t warmed up to everyone being home all the time. Often the little dog will lie down on the ottoman Jean placed next to her work station.
Holly, the toy poodle, and Anges, a chihuahua and dachshund mix sleep on the ottoman next to Jean while she works.

“I’m not going to smile”

While stuck home quarantining my JRN340 class moved into its Photography unit. Lucky for me I am a photojournalism major with my own DSLR camera and editing software! Unlucky for my dad, Chris Hubbell, however as he hates his picture taken. When I told him I need to take his picture for my headshot assignment he replied, “You know I hate my pictures taken,” when I agreed he added, “I’m not going to smile.”

Diving into adaptions, Harry Potter edition

As avid readers and movie goers my partner, Alexis, and I decided to compare the books and movies of different popular series. We decided to start with one of the most popular franchises out there, Harry Potter. In this 18 minute podcast we interview a big Harry Potter fan and an expert on adaption to get more information so that we may finally answer the question, Is the book always better?

Introducing Rain

Hello! My name is Rain Hubbell and this is my blog for my JRN340, Intro to Digital Journalism, class. My real name is Rhiannon, like the Fleetwood Mac song. I got the nickname Rain when I was little and most people when I was younger couldn’t pronounce my real name and it stuck. I am a photojournalism major at Central Michigan University, I have been a photographer since I was a freshman in high school, with my robotics team, then when I came up to school I became the photographer and promotions manager for Moore Media Records Central’s on-campus record label. I love to write and take pictures so, I’m really glad I found the photojournalism major at CMU. I am also, a mentor for my high school FIRST robotics team, that I was on for four years, and I absolutely love it.
